Do Something Different This Weekend! Five Good reasons to Visit Cambridge Open Studios

Cambridge Open Studios showcases the artwork of talented local artists across Cambridgeshire. For the first four Saturdays and Sundays in July, from 10am to 5pm, artists open their homes, studios and galleries to the general public -completely free of charge. If you're wondering why you should make a point to visit, especially in a financial crisis, here are five compelling reasons to get out and about this weekend.

Explore Cambridgeshire:

Visiting Cambridge Open Studios will give you the opportunity to discover the region, go into places you would not normally have access to, and appreciate the incredible art produced by local artists. With 365 artists in 264 venues across the county you could make a grand tour! There are 23 x Art Trail leaflets you can download to help you explore new corners of Cambridgeshire. Artists for recommendations for lunch stops!

Do Something Different at the Weekend:

Fed up with doing the same old things at the weekend? Bored with the tennis/cricket/sport on telly? Don’t want to tackle the weekend chores list? then get out! It costs nothing to enter and you are under no obligation to buy. Take the chance to immerse yourself in the local art scene and support the talent within your community just by visiting. Bring the kids- they ask great questions and if they are studying art at school- it all counts!

Meet People:

Cambridge Open Studios provides a unique opportunity to directly interact with the artists themselves. Whether you come with family, friends or on your own, you will be made very welcome. During the event, artists open up their studios to the public, allowing you to step into their creative spaces. Engage in conversations, ask questions, and gain insights into their creative process. This gives you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at their work environment, materials, and inspiration and that’s a great conversation!

Love a Bargain!:

Got a bare wall or shelf? You don’t have to buy, but should you love a piece so much that you want it in your home, you might just get a bargain! With no middlemen involved, prices can be lower than from a gallery and you can often buy original art for less than the price of a shop bought reproduction. Many artists offer studio sales as well as their exhibition. By purchasing artwork directly from the artists, you are contributing to their livelihood directly. Your support helps ensure that talented individuals can continue creating beautiful pieces for everyone to enjoy.

Expand Your Own Creative Horizons:

Finally, if you have ever dabbled with paint, doodled or made your own masterpiece, visiting Cambridge Open Studios offers a chance to expand your own creative horizons. Engaging with different art forms and witnessing the diverse range of talent might just inspire and ignite your own creativity! It's an opportunity to explore new artistic styles, techniques, and perspectives. You might even discover a hidden talent within yourself or find a local group or tutor. Cambridge Open Studios encourages everyone to embrace their own creativity and explore their artistic side!
